Umakunda Rural Municipality situates northern part of the Ramechhap district. Based on the geographical area it is the largest rural municipality of Ramechhap district. Umakunda Rural Municipality was formed by combining then Gumdel, Bamti, Kubukasthali, Priti, Gupteshowr and Bhuji VDCs. The Rural municipality has total area of 451.99 square kilo meter and is divided into 7 wards. Solukhumbu and Okhaldhunga district lie in the east of Umakunda Rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Gokulganga Rural Municipality in the west, Solukhumbu and Dolakha district in the north and Okhaldhunga district and Likhu Tamakoshi rural municipality in the south. The geography of this Rural municipality includes steep hills and cold weather. Umakaunda has the total population of 17,601 consisting male population 8,243 and female population of 9,358 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 3,869 households in Umakunda rural municipality.

The major economic activities of Umakunda rural municipality are agriculture, tourism and water resources. 5 hydropower projects are under construction and many more are doing the feasibility study in this rural municipality till the date.  Tamedanda, Umatirtha Temple, various Chandi Temple, etc. are the historical and tourist area of the Umakunda rural municipality. Yak farming is major business of ward no 1 of the rural municipality. Umakunda rural municipality is the main entrance of religious and touristic region Pachpokhari, and Jattapokhari. Potato, wheat, herbs, are the major agriculture product of this rural municipality.

Mr. Sher Bahadur Sunuwar and Mrs. Urmila Karki Basnet are the chairman and vice chairman of the Umakunda rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in ward no 4 Chyadul area.
