Thasang Rural Municipality is situated at south part of Mustangi district, Gandaki province. This Rural Municipality was established in 2073 B.S. This Rural Municipality is surrounded by Manang district from east, Dolpa district from west, Baragang Muktichhetra and Gharapjong Rural Municipality from north and Myagdi district from south. This local unit is divided into 5 wards. This local unit is named in Thakali language.  Beni-Jomsom road goes through this area. This area is mainland of Thakali communities.

Population of Thasang Rural Municipality is 2,912 which include 562 households as per the census 2011. Population of male is 1,609 and female is 1,400.  This local unit covers 290 kilometer square area. Thakali and Nepali are major languages spoken. Buddhism is major religion. Except Thakali, Gurung, Dalit are also residing here. Most of the land is covered by forest and farming, snow, butanes, grass area, mountain rocks and residence. Except tourism, animal husbandry is major occupation. Kapur Gumba, Marche Lekh, Narsang Gumba, Guru Sangbo Gumba, Titi lake are some of the tourist destinations of this area. Potato, maize, barley are major crops that could be cultivated. Professional apple farming has also started. Himalayan cow farming is also traditional occupation.

Mr. Buddhi Prasad Sherchan is Chairperson and Ms. Bal Kumari Sherchan is Vice-chairperson of Thasang Rural Municipality. Total number of local representatives is 27. Number of employees working under this local unit is 25.
