Tatopani rural municipality is situated in the  southern part of the Jumla district. Existing VDCs such as Lamra, Hanku, Tatopani and Tamti, were combined in Tatopani rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 525.55 square Kilometers and is divided into 8 wards. Chandranath municipality lies in the east of Tatopani rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Tila rural municipality in the west, Sinja rural municipality in the north and Jajarkot district in the south. The geography of this rural municipality is steep slopes with high mountain and cold weather. Tatopani rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 14638 consisting male population 7347 and female population of 7291 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 2704 households in Tatopani rural municipality.

Brahmin, Chhetri, Dalit, Janajatietc reside in this rural municipality and celebrates Dashain, Tihar, Magheshakranti, Ramnawami, Baishakepurnima, Janaipurnima, Teej, Holi, Loshar etc. festivals in a friendly manner. Majority of people speak nepali language. All the residential of this rural municipality are independent in agriculture and also engaged in livestock farming too. The atmosphere & climate of this rural municipality is healthy & good.
