Talkot Rural Municipality is situated at north-east part of Bajhang district, Sudur Pashim province connected with district headquarter Chainpur. High mountain land is the nature of geography. It was established in 2073 B.S. by combining then Melbisauna, Dnatola, Dhamena and Sunikot Village Development Committees. This Rural Municipality is surrounded by Bajura and Humla district at east, Surma Rural Municipality and Bungal Municipality at west, Masta Rural Municipality and Jay Prithvi Municipality at south and Kanda Rural Municipality at north. It covers the 10% area of district. This Rural Municipality has been named after the Talkot village located at ward number five. It has been divided into seven wards.

Total population of Talkot Rural Municipality is 11,557 people as per the census of 2011. Majority of people speak Nepali language followed by Bajhangi. Among nineteen different ethnic groups Chhetri are dominating population followed by Kami. Total area covered by Talkot Municipality is 335.26 kilometer square. Majority of land is covered by forest, grass grounds and rocks. Majority of people are engaged in animal husbandry, agriculture and seasonal employment to India. 61% people are literature. Majority of people are Hindu and major festivals are Dashain and Tihar. Ward number one is most populated ward in this Rural Municipality followed by five and six.

Mr. Lal Bahadur Bista is Chairperson and Ms. Dhanalaxmi Khatri is Vice-chairperson of this Rural Municipality. Total number of elected representatives in local level government election is 37. Center of the Rural Municipality is Melbisauna village.
