Sunkoshi rural municipality situates Southern part of the Sindhupalchowk district.  Sunkoshi rural municipality was formed by combining then Thokarpa, Kalika, Thumpakhar, Sunkhani, Yamunadanda, and Pangretar VDCs. The Rural municipality has total area of 72.84 square kilo meter and is divided into 7 wards. Lisankhupakhar rural municipality lies in the east of Sunkoshi rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Chautara Sangha Chowk Gadhi rural municipality in the west, Balefi rural municipality in the north and Kavreplanchowk district in the south. The geography of this Rural municipality includes naturally decorated high hills mountains, and cold weather. Sunkoshi rural municipality has the total population of 17246 consisting male population 7883 and female population of 9363 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 4359 households in Sunkoshi rural municipality.

Sunkoshi name was kept as the remark of the famous river.  Hindu, and Buddhist are the key religions of this rural municipality. Brahamin, Chhetri, and Tamang, Bishowkarma, Nepali, Magar, Gharti, etc. are the major ethnic groups of this rural municipality. Nepali is the most spoken language of this rural municipality. Agriculture, livestock farming, trade and tourism are the major economic source of this rural municipality.

Mr. Sharawan Kumar G.C and Mrs. Laxmi Poudel are the chairman and vice chairman of the Sunkoshi rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Pangretar, Sindhupalchowk.
