Soru rural municipality is situated in the southern part of the Mugu district. Existing Village Development Committees such as Natharpu, Bhie, Photu, Jima, Dhainkot, Kaalai and Rara, were combined in Soru rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 365.80 square kilo meter and is divided into 11 wards. Chhayanath Rara municipality lies in the east of Soru rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Humla district in the west, Mugum Karmarong rural municipality in the north and Khatyad rural municipality in the south. The geography of this rural municipality steeply and high mountain and cold weather. Soru rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 12238 consisting male population 6115 and female population of 6123 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 2109 households in Soru rural municipality.
Thakuri, Magar, Lama, Tamang, Brahmin, Chhetri, Thakuri, Dalit, Giri, Ban, Khatri, Dholi, Oad, Batalu, Chadaraetc caste and ethnic groups are residing in this rural municipality and they celebrate festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Magheshakranti, Ramnawami, Baishakepurnima, Janaipurnima, Teej, Holi, Loshar, Christmas day etc. festivals in a friendly manner. Most of the household individuals are engaged in agriculture as well as livestock & mushroom farming. The main crops are Paddy, Wheat, Corn, Mas, Rahar, Aalas, Mustard, and Potato etc.
Mr. Lok Bahadur Sahi and Mrs. Rajyalaxmi Malla (Bom) are the chairman and vice chairman of the Soru rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Jeema, Mugu.
