The geographical area of Sirijangha Rural Municipality is 481.09 sq km. It has a population of 15806 according to the local election 2017. This rural municipality has eight wards. It was formed by merging eight former VDCs. It is surrounded by Sidingma gaunpalika and India in the east and Yangwarak gaunpalika and Phungling municipality in the west and Phattanglung gaunpalika in the north and Panchthar district in the south.
The name of the rural municipality is in honour of the Tyangsi Sirijangha Sin Thebe from this area, who was a creator of Limbu language and script from 17th century. To give recognition of his contribution people choose to name the area after him.
The third highest in the world and second highest in Nepal; the Mt. Kanchanjanga is also in this gaunpalika. Kanchanjanga trekking and expedition is very popular route in Nepal. Himalayan herbs and hard cheese (churpi) export from this area has valuable contribution in local economy. To make this area road accessible 12 months of the year and proper management of local product its marketing can contribute in national economy as well. The Himalayas, its natural beauty and the cultural and agrarian life of local people is worth a visit to this place.
