Shivanath Rural Municipality is situated at south-west part of Baitadi district, Sudur Paschim province. it was established in 2073 B.S. by combining then Udayadev, Sharmali, Shivanath and Mahakali Village Development Committees. It is categorized into six wards. It is named after the local temple of Hindu god Shivanath. It is surrounded by Dadeldhula district at south, Pancheswor Rural Municipality at north, Melauli Municipality at east and Mahakali river and Indian boarder at west. It is mountain area with forest and rocks. This Rural Municipality has recently connected with road network.
As per the census 2011, total population of Shivanath Rural Municipality is 17,115 which include 2771 households. Population of female is 9,050 and male is 8,065. Ward number two is most populated ward followed by ward number one and five. There are about ten ethnic communities residing here out of them Chhetri is dominating population which occupies 61.5% followed by Dalit 22% and Thakuri 10%. Almost all people speak Baitadeli language. Literacy rate of this local unit is 65%, number of educational institutions are 37 and 98% people have access to solar electricity. Agriculture is major occupation followed by foreign employment and service. Wheat, paddy, maize, barley, millet and fruits and vegetables could be cultivated here. Cow, buffalo, goat, pig, poultry, fish farming are also complementary occupation of agricultural population. People also collect and sell gum of pine. It covers total area of 81.65 kilometer square.
Mr. Karna Shingh Raaut is Chairperson and Ms. Kushma Chand is Vice-chairperson of Shivanath Rural Municipality. Total number of local representatives is 32. Center of this Rural Municipality is at Sulyakhan village ward number 6.
