The geographical area of Phalelung Rural Municipality is 207.14 sq km. It has a population of 21884 according to census 2011. This rural municipality has eight wards. The headquarter of this municipality is situated in Memeng. It borders with West Bengal and Sikkim of India.     

This rural municipality is located in highland so four months in a year is covered by the snow. Rhododendron the national flower here is of many varieties of colors, making the place more beautiful in blooming season. This area is rich with Himalayan herbs, yak and chauri farming is the main source of income of people living here as they sell hard cheese (churpi) and ghee direct to India and other parts of Nepal.  

The Chairperson and Vice chairperson this rural municipality are Sancha Kumar Kerung and Hima Adhikari respectively.
