Patarasi rural municipality is situated in the  northern part of the Jumla district. Existing VDCs such as Patmara, Dillichaur, Chhumchaur and Patarasi, were combined in Patarasi rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 814.07 square Kilometers and is divided into 7 wards. Dolpa district lies in the east of Patarasi rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Kanakasundari rural municipality and Sinja rural municipality in the west, Mugu district in the north and Chandranath municipality in the south. The geography of this rural municipality is steep slopes with high mountain and cold weather. Patarasi rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 14571 consisting male population 7288 and female population of 7283 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 2537 households in Patarasi rural municipality.

Mahatara, Budha, Basnet, Brahmin, Chhetri, Dalit, Janajatietc reside in this rural municipality and celebrates Dashain, Tihar, Magheshakranti, Ramnawami, Baishakepurnima, Janaipurnima, Teej, Holi, Loshar etc. festivals in a friendly manner. Majority of people speak nepali language. All the residential of this rural municipality are engaged in agriculture & livestock farming too. The atmosphere & climate of this rural municipality is healthy & good.

Mr. Lachhiman Bohara and Mrs. Punnakali Mahatara are the chairman and vice chairman of the Patarasi rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Dillichaur, Lasi Jumla.
