Mellekh Rural Municipality is located at Achham district of Sudur Pashim province. It was established in 2073 B.S. by combining then Rishidadha, Thati, Kushkot, Bindhyabasini, Sodashadevi, Nandegada and Hattikot Village Development Committees. It has been divided into eight wards. Hundred percent of land lies on mountain area with cold weather. This local unit is surrounded by Ramaroshan Rural Municipality at east, Safebagar Municipality at west, Bajura district at north and Bannigadhi Jayagadh Rural Municipality at south. Name of this Rural Municipality has been kept by the plant Mel and height area is called in Nepali Lekh so it become MelLekh.
It covers 134.78 kilometer square area. Total population of Mellekh Rural Municipality is 24,728 which covers 4363 households as per the census 2011. There are more than 13 ethnic groups residing in this local unit among which Chhetri are major populations with 72.26% of total population followed by Kami, Sarki and Thakuri. Achhami is the major language which is spoken by 94% of total people. As agriculture and animal husbandry are major occupations of this local unit, as land is sloped and north faced, people cultivate crops like potato, maize, millet etc. There are 82 educational institutions in this local unit.
Chairman of this Rural Municipality is Mr. Lok Bahadur Bohara and Vice-chairman is Mr. Dhan Bahadur Shahi. There are 42 elected representatives in this Rural Municipality. Ward number 2 Dandashiri is the center of this local unit.
