Mayadevi rural municipality is located in the eastern part of the Kapilbastu district. VDCs such as Pakadi, Abhirawa, Phulika, Pipara, Baluhawa, dumara, Harnampur and Bijuwa, were combined in Mayadevi rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 88.53square kilometers and is divided into 8 wards. Suddhodhan rural municipality lies in the east of Mayadevi rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by kapilbastu municipality and Yasodhara rural municipality in the west, Banganga municipality in the north and Nepal-India boarder in the south. The geography of this rural municipality includes plan fertile land. Mayadevi rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 48218 consisting male population 24198 and female population of 24020 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 6507 households in Mayadevi rural municipality.
The name of this rural municipality is based upon the name of Lord Buddha’s mother named Mayadevi. The major castes reside in this rural municipality are Yadav, Tharu, Brahaman, Chhetri, Lodha, Kurmi, Harijan, Musalman etc. Similarly, Dashain, Tihar, Chhatha, Ramnawami, Shivaratri, Maghi, Rakshyabandhan, Ramajan, Eid etc are the most celebrated festivals in this rural municipality. Here, in this rural municipality all the seasonal corps can harvest & grow well. The major corps grows are Paddy, Wheat, Corn, Mustard, Sunflower, Peanuts, Potato etc. In these days people also engaged in harvesting many cash crops like vegetables, mushroom, livestock, etc.
Mr. Bajrangi Prasad Kurmi and Mrs. Geeta Tiwari are the chairman and vice chairman of the Mayadevi rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Pakadi, Kapilbastu.
