Maijogmai Rural Minicipality is a far-fledged eastern gaunpalika, one of the six rural municipality, of Ilam district. This rural municipality took its form after having five the then VDCs, Naya Bazar, Jogmai, Namsaling, Soyang and Pyang merged following the formation of Federal Government.
Maijogmai has an area of 172.41 square kilometres and the total population of the municipality is 21,044 as of census 2011 including, 10,397 males and 10,667 females with its population density of 155.2 per square kilometer.
This gaunpalika is attributed for its ethnic and cultural diversity as well as specialty. This gaunpalika is the settlement of Lepcha and Thami ethnic group who resides only in the eastern part of Ilam. Land of Karma of Social Worker Saint Balaguru, Nayabazar; MaibeniDham, BoudhaGumba of Naya Bazar, Sinhadevi Temple, Gorkhe Shiwalaya, Pang hill station for sunrise view and Mechi River, among others are some of the remarkable sites of attraction for visitors.
The rural municipality is divided into total 6 wards and the Naya Bazar is the Headquarter of this newly formed rural municipality.
Jit Bahadur Rai is the Chairperson of this rural municipality and Sabitra Bhattarai is the Vice-Chairman.
