Kotahimai rural municipality is located in the southern part of the Rupandehi district. VDCs such as Sakronpakadi, Sipawa, majhaganwa, Bogadi, maryadpur and bairaghat, were combined in Kotahimai rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 58026 square kilometers and is divided into 7 wards. Nepal-India boarder lies in the east of Kotahimai rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Lumbini Saskritik municipality in the west, Mahadevi rural municipality in the north and Sammarimai and Marchabari rural municipality in the south. The geography of this rural municipality includes plan fertile land. Kotahimai rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 41006 consisting male population 21074 and female population of 19932 according to the National Population Census of Nepal 2011. There are 5593 households in Kotahimai rural municipality.

The name of this rural municipality is based on religious Kotahimai Goddess Temple lies in then Bairghat VDC. Maximum madheshi people reside in this rural municipality. Festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Janaipurnima, Teej, Chhatha, Holi, Buddhajayanti, Moharam, Christmas, Eid etc are celebrated in this rural municipality. Most of the household individuals are engaged in agriculture businesses as well as livestock & mushroom farming. The main crops are Paddy, Wheat, Corn, Mustard, Peanuts, and Potato etc. Mr. Chandrabhusan Yadav and Mrs.Bhanmati baniya are the chairman and vice chairman of the Kotahimai rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Majhagawa,Rupandehi.
