Kharpunath rural municipality is situated in the eastern part of the Humla district. VDCs such as Laali, Raya, Chhipra and Kharpunath, were combined in Kharpunath rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 880 square kilo meter and is divided into 5 wards. Chankheli rural municipality lies in the east of Kharpunath rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Humla municipality and Simkot rural municipality in the west, Nepal-China boarder in the north and Sarkegadha rural municipality in the south. The geography of this rural municipality is steep and high mountain with cold weather. Kharpunath rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 6011 consisting male population 2967 and female population of 3044 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 1132 households in Kharpunath rural municipality.
Brahmin, Chhetri, Thakuri, Dalit, Giri, Rawal, Shahi etc reside in this rural municipality and celebrates festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Magheshakranti, Ramnawami, Baishakepurnima, Janaipurnima, Teej, Holi, Loshar, Christmas day etc. The main source of income of this rural municipality is tourism, government/private job & foreign employment.
Mr. Karna Bhadur Rawal and Mrs. Rupa Sahi are the chairman and vice chairman of the Kharpunath rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Yanchubagar, Kharpunath Humla.
