Kapurkot rural district is located in the eastern part of the Salyan district. In 2073 BS, adjoining areas of Saepani Garpa, Dhanwang, Rim and Sinwang, were combined in Kapurkot rural district. The Rural municipality has total area of 119.20 square Kilometers and is divided into 6 wards. Rolpa district lies in the east of Kapurkot rural district. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Tribeni rural municipality in the west, Chhatreshori rural municipality in the north and Dang district in the south. The geography of this rural municipality is steep slopes with high mountain and cold weather. Kapurkot rural district has the total population of the municipality is 18204 consisting male population 8718 and female population of 9486 according to the national population census of Nepal 2011. There are 3657 households in Kapurkot rural district.

This rural municipality is known as the door of Karnali Province. Pun, Gharti, Magar, Bista, Bahun, Chhetri, Dalit, Janajatietc reside in this rural municipality and celebrates Dashain, Tihar, Magheshakranti, Ramnawami, Baishakepurnima, Janaipurnima, Teej, Holi, Loshar etc. festivals in a friendly manner. All the residential of this rural municipality are engaged in agriculture & livestock farming too.

Mr. Bhim Bahadur Basnet and  are the chairman and vice chairman of the Kapurkot rural district. The rural municipality office is situated in Kapurkot, Salyan.
