Kalimati rural municipality is located in the southern part of the Salyan district. In 2073 BS, adjoining areas of Laxmipur, kalimati Rampur, Kalimati Kanche and Kaprechaur, were combined in Kalimati rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 500.72 square Kilometers and is divided into 7 wards. Tribeni rural municipality and Dang district lies in the east of Kalimati rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Bardiya district in the west, Bangad Kupinde municipality in the north and Banke district in the south. The geography of this rural municipality is steep slopes with high mountain and cold weather. Kalimati rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 23005 consisting male population 11300 and female population of 11705 according to the national population census of Nepal 2011. There are 4343 households in Kalimati rural municipality.
The name of this rural municipality is based o famous religious goddess worshipped as Gangamala Bhagwati. Pun, Gharti, Magar, Bista, Bahun, Chhetri, Dalit, Janajatietc reside in this rural municipality and celebrates Dashain, Tihar, Magheshakranti, Ramnawami, Baishakepurnima, Janaipurnima, Teej, Holi, Loshar etc. festivals in a friendly manner. All the residential of this rural municipality are engaged in agriculture & livestock farming too. Mr. Dan Bahadur KC and Mrs. Sansilta Oli DC are the chairman and vice chairman of the Kalimati rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Rampur, Salyan.
