Janaki Rural Municipality is located at Kailali District of Sudur Pashim province, Nepal. Janaki Rural Municipality was formed by combining then Durgauli, Janakinagar, Munuwa and Pathraiya VDCs. There are nine wards under this Rural Municipality. This Rural Municipality is situated at 10 kilometer south of Lamki Bazar, Mahendra Highway. At east boarder of this Rural Municipality, Bardiya District lies, similarly at west Joshipur Rural Municipality, at north Lamki Chuha Municipality and at South Tikapur Municipality lies. Janaki Rural Municipality was established on 2073 BS.
Total population of this Rural Municipality is 48.540 as per the census of 2011. Major residents of this local unit are Tharu covering 60.4%, followed by Brahmin 10.07% and Chhetri 9.81%. total area of this Rural Municipality is 107.27 Square kilometer. 100% land is plain land lies in terai.
Agriculture, farming, trade and foreign employment are major income sources of residence. As irrigation facility is provided to much of the land, this area is major source of Paddy and Wheat crops. Pradip Kumar Chaudhary is the Chairman and Uma Mahato is Vice- chairman of this Rural Municipality.
