Dhakari Rural Municipality is located at Achham District of Sudur Pashim province. It is located at 50 kilometer east to district headquarter of Achham district at mountain region of Mahabharat mountain range. It is situated at south-east part of Achham district. It was formed by combining then Dhakari, Himcha, Balata, Ghodasain and Dhungachalna Village Development Committees. This Rural Municipality is covered by Kamal Bazar Municipality and Turmakhad Rural Municipality at east, Doti District at west, Mangalsen Municipality at north and Surkhet district at south. Name of this Rural Municipality was given after then Dhakari VDC which came from “dhakre” or porters who used to rest here during their walk.

Dhakari Rural Municipality has been divided into eight wards. It covers total area of 227.88 kilometer square out of which 72% land is covered by different community forests and butanes and 25% land has been used in farming. 21,570 is the total population of this Rural Municipality as per the census 2011 with 3,796 households. Dominated by Chhetri community, which occupies 55% of total population, this local level has more than 12 ethnic groups like Brahmin, Dalit and Indigenous people. Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and seasonal Indian employment are major source of income in this area. Nepali language is dominating language with 95% occupancy. There are altogether 98 educational institutions.

Mr. Dhan Bahadur Budha is Chairperson and Ms. Laxmi Saaud is Vice-chairperson of Dhakari Rural Municipality. Centre of the Rural Municipality is Dhakari village located at ward number one. Number of elected local level representatives in last election is 37.
