The geographical area of Dewangunj Rural Municipality is 53.56 sq km. It has a population of 35073 according to census 2011. This rural municipality has seven wards. It was formed by merging five former VDCs. It is surrounded by India in its south. The headquarter of this municipality is situated in Dewangunj.
People living here are of Madesh origin. Ethnic composition in terai region is same like in the hills where the caste hierarchy exist strongly. Open border with India is making this place more vulnerable to criminal activities.
Tarai is geographically accessible, 90 percent of the population here are into agriculture. Concedaring the fertile land of this region agriculture is the main source of income for people to produce it and sell it in the market vis-à-vis working as a daily wage worker in the field.
