Chingad rural municipality is located in the eastern part of the Surkhet district. Existing VDCs such as Rajena, Ranibas, Matela, Awalching and Pamka, were combined in Chingad rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 170.19 square Kilometers and is divided into 6 wards. Simta rural municipality lies in the east of Chingad rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Birendranagar municipality and Dailekh district in the west, Jajarkot district in the north and Gurbhakot municipality in the south. Chingad rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 17275 consisting male population 8287 and female population of 8988 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 2923 households in Chingad rural municipality.

This rural municipality lies from 600 meter height to 2800-meter height from the sea level. The story behind the name of this rural municipality is, there is a river, ‘Chingaad’, flows connecting all previous VDCs so the name of this rural municipality is ‘Chingaad’. Another believes that ‘Ching’ mean community or society and ‘Gaad’ mean ‘river’ in local language. Thus, this rural municipality is name represents the society which is surrounded by river.¬† People produce the crops like Corn, Millet, Wheat, Barley-Flower, etc. which require less irrigation. Valuable herbals can be found. Hindu, Buddhist and Christian are the major religious group of this rural municipality. Chhetri, Brahamin, Shahi, Newar, Damai, Kami, Gurung, Sarki, Thakuri are major community inhabitant in this rural municipality. People’s major source of income is agriculture, fruits cultivation, and livestock farming. Dashain, Tihar, Budhha Purnima, Loahasar, SrawanSakranti, Janai Purnima etc. are the major festivals people do celebrate in this rural municipality. Daha, Sakse cave, DudheMasto temple, Bhotechuli, Laurihanne Takura, NanliChuli cave, Kagbas, Tamakhani cave, Pathachalna cave, Chuli lek, etc. are the major tourist destination of this rural municipality.

Mr. Dev Bahadur Chand and Mrs. Man Maya Acharya are the chairman and vice chairman of the Chingad rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Awalching, Surkhet.
