Chukune rural municipality is located in the western part of the Surkhet district. Existing VDCs such as Lagam, Betam, Bijaura, Gutu and Ghatgaun, were combined in Chukune rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 38 square Kilometers and is divided into 10 wards. Panchpuri municipality lies in the east of Chukune rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Doti district in the west, Dailekh district in the north and Kailali district in the south. Chukune rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 25240 consisting male population 12214 and female population of 13026 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 4608 households in Chukune rural municipality.
People produce the crops like Corn, Millet, Wheat, Barley-Flower, etc. which require less irrigation. Valuable herbals can be found. Hindu, Buddhist and Christian are the major religious group of this rural municipality. Chhetri, Brahamin, Magar, Newar, Damai, Kami, Sarki, are major community inhabitant in this rural municipality. People speak Nepali language. People’s major source of income is agriculture, tourism, rafting, and livestock farming. Dashain, Tihar, Budhha Purnima, Loahasar, SrawanSakranti, Janai Purnima etc. are the major festivals people do celebrate in this rural municipality. SetiKarnaliDovan, Kot palace, Chamere cave, Shiva temple, Chinrasmalika, Dhanrakhne cave, Ramdanda shiva temple, Tinchule, Baraha lake, Daha lake, Chhinte stone, Red palace, Mukhiya thalo, Bandali than, Kunduk, Basudhara waterfall, Bhumkakunda, Jagannath than, Chaukune cement mining etc. are major touristic, historical and religious place of this rural municipality.
Mr. Dhir Bahadur Sahi and Mrs. Nirmala Magar are the chairman and vice chairman of the Chukune rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Gutu, Surkhet.
