Chankheli rural municipality is situated in the eastern part of the Humla district. VDCs such as  Darma, Mimi, Shreemastha, Mechham and Gothi, were combined in Chankheli rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 1310.41 square kilo meter and is divided into 6 wards. Mugu district lies in the east of Chankheli rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Sarkegadha rural municipality in the west, Kharpunath rural municipality in the north and Mugu district and Sarkegadha rural municipality in the south. The geography of this rural municipality is steep and high mountain with cold weather. Chankheli rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 5517 consisting male population 2788 and female population of 2729 as of Census of Nepal 2011. There are 963 households in Chankheli rural municipality.

This rural municipality is situated in the eastern part of the Humla District. Brahmin, Chhetri, Thakuri, Dalit, Giri, Rawal, Shahi etc reside in this rural municipality and celebrates festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Magheshakranti, Ramnawami, Baishakepurnima, Janaipurnima, Teej, Holi, Loshar, Christmas day etc. festivals in a friendly manner. The main source of income of this rural municipality is tourism, government/private job & foreign employment.

Mr. Dhanlal Chaulagai and Mrs. Bimala Kumari Sahi are the chairman and vice chairman of the Chankheli rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Chankheli, Humla.
