Vyas Rural Municipality is situated at north part of Darchula district, Sudur Pashim province. it is largest local level unit of the district. It was established in 2073 B.S. by combining five then VDCs- Vyas, Rapla, Sunsera, Dhaulakot and Huti. It is tri-country boarder Rural Municipality of Nepal. It is surrounded by India and China in west and north part, Naugad, Duhu and Api Himal Rural Municipalities at south, Api Himal Rural Municipality and Bajhang district at east. It is 10 Kosh far from district headquarter Khalanga. It is recently connected by road network. It is named after the Hindu devotee Vyas Sage as Vyas gufa lies here where he used to meditate. Infrastructure, agriculture, tourism and social development are the major priority sectors of local government. It is divided into six wards. It was part of Doti kingdom during medieval era.
According to the census 2011, total population of Vyas Rural Municipality is 10,347 with 1919 households. Population of female is 5482 and male is 4865. Area covered by this Rural Municipality is 839.26 kilometer square. Much of the land is covered by mountains, grass, forests and rocks. Chhetri are the major population and Doteli is major language in this Rural Municipality.
Vyas Rural Municipality is the way to go Hindu holy place of Tibet Kailash Mansarovar, so it has enormous potentiality of tourism. It is home place for different precious herbs and important birds, animals and plants. Apple, banana, orange and other fruits and vegetable farming are being prioritized.
Mr. Dilip Budhathoki is Chairperson and Ms. Hema Bhatta is Vice-chairperson of this Rural Municipality. Sunsara village is the center of Vyas Rural Municipality which lies in ward number four. Total 32 local representatives were elected during local level election from this Rural Municipality.
