Bogatan Rural Municipality is situated at south-east part of Doti district, Sudur Paschim province. it is also called Bogatan Fudsil Rural Municipality. This local unit was established in 2073 B.S. by combining then Simchaur, Kedaradda, Kanachaur, Satphari, Dhirkamandou, Gaguda and Chamarachatara Village Development Committees. This local unit is surrounded by Achham and Surkhet districts at east, Badikedar Rural Municipality at west, K I Shingh Rural Municipality at north and Badikerar Rural Municipality and Surkhet district at south. This is divided into seven wards. It is mountain area of west Nepal.
Total population of Bogatan Rural Municipality is 17,906 with 3,131 households. Population of male is 8484 and female is 9,422 as per the census 2011. Average size of family is 5.72 members. Ward number six is most populated ward. This local unit is the residence of ten ethnic communities among which Chhetri are major population with 60.35% occupancy rate. Kami, Thakuri and Brahmin are other major ethnic groups. Doteli is the major mother tongue with 94.53% people speaking it followed by Kham and Magar. This local unit covers total area of 300.22 kilometer square. Much of the land is occupied by forest and agriculture land. Main occupation of people is farming. Paddy, wheat, maize, vegetables and fruits are major crops that can be cultivated. Youths are also attracted to foreign employment. Literacy rate is 55.2%.
