The geographical area of Barju Rural Municipality is 69.43 sq km. It has a population of 31178 according to census 2011. This rural municipality has six wards. It was formed by merging four former VDCs. The headquarter of this municipality is situated in Amahibelaha.

Name of this gaunpalika is derived from the pond name ‘Barju’. It has myth that it is related to the Mahabharat period. Commercial farming is the main occupation people are involved in here. Agriculture, Education, Health, Industry, tourism and infrastructure are the key areas that local government is working to enhance living of the people.

The Chairperson and Vice chairperson this rural municipality are Raghunandan Chaudhari and Sangeeta Kumari Ray respectively.
