Babai rural municipality is located in the western part of the Dang district. VDCs such as Panchakule and Purandhara, were combined in Babai rural municipality. The Rural municipality has total area of 257.48 square kilometers and is divided into 7 wards. Shantinagar and Dangisharan rural municipality lies in the east of Babai rural municipality. Similarly, this rural municipality is surrounded by Sallyaan district in the west, Rolpa and sallyan district in the north and Banke district in the south. The geography of this rural municipality includes plan fertile land. Babai rural municipality has the total population of the municipality is 27469 consisting male population 12529 and female population of 14940 according to the National Population census of Nepal 2011. There are 5945 households in Babai rural municipality.

Tharu ethnic groups are in majority in this rural municipality and followed by Chhetri, Brahaman, Dalit, Muslim etc. Dashain, Tihar, Janaipurnima, Chandi Purnima, Buddhajayanti, Maghesarankti, Holi, Eid, Chhathaetc festivals in a friendly manner. Awadhi, Tharu, Nepali are the most spoken languages of this rural municipality. Paddy, Wheat, Corn, Mustard, Grain and various cash crops also harvest in this rural municipality. People of this rural municipality also engaged in livestock business also and some are in abroad for foreign employment also.

Mr. Bhuwaneshor Poudel and Mrs. Sabitra Bk are the chairman and vice chairman of the Babai rural municipality. The rural municipality office is situated in Hapure, Dang.
