Aurahi Rural Municipality is situated at mid-south part of Dhanusa district, Province number two. This Rural Municipality was established in 2073 B.S. by combining then Poudeshow, Aurahi, Deuriparwaha and Chakkar Village Development Committees. This local unit is surrounded by Hanspur Kathpulla Municipality from north, Dhanouji Rural Municipality from south, Bideha Municipality from east and Janakpur Sub-metropolitan city from west. This local unit is divided into six wards. This Rural Municipality is named after Hindu Devotee Aurav who used to meditate over here.

As per the census 2011, total population of Aurahi Rural Municipality is 22,578 including 4,003 households. Population of male is 11,331 and female is 11,247. Most populated ward is ward number one. Average size of family is 5.36 individuals per family. There are about 43 different ethnic communities residing under this local unit. Among them Yadav is largest population constituting 18.86% followed by Kewat, Muslim and Mallah. Hindu is major religion followed by Muslim. There are about 12 language speaking people residing under this local unit. Majority of people (95.72%) speak Maithali language. This covers total area of 25.56 kilometer square. Most of the land is covered by farming and forest. Farming is major occupation over here followed by fishery, foreign employment and service. As connected by Janakpur area, there is huge possibility of religious tourism and development.

Mr. Brahmadev Yadav is Chairperson and Ms. Meera Devi Sahani is Vice-chairperson of Aurahi Rural Municipality. Deuri Parwaha village is center of this local unit.
